The Power of Prayer

 
The Power of Prayer - How do I utilize it?

The power of prayer relies on the assurance that the God of the Universe is listening to you. Since prayer is a two-way communication between you and God, you will always receive an answer to your prayers! It might be YES, NO, or NOT YET. This may surprise you, but unanswered prayer does not exist. Sometimes, we feel like God has not answered, but the reality is that sometimes we don't like the answer we’ve received. How can I say powerful prayers? The Bible gives several principles regarding the power of prayer:


Bring Glory to God.

In the Bible, we read a simple yet sincere prayer that brought glory to God. Elijah prayed, "O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God and that you are turning their hearts back again." Prayers don't have to be long and elaborate; they just have to come from our hearts and give glory to God.


Pray in Jesus' Name.

The power of prayer relies on the authority we have when we say a prayer. Adding the phrase "in Jesus' name" is not a magic tagline that will secure our prayers or make them more effective. Praying in the name of Jesus simply means that we desire His will. We can be confident while approaching the Father because we have been cleansed from our sins. Without the blood of Jesus that washes away our sins, there is no chance of coming close to God - He is perfect and holy. Because we have been justified through Christ, we can know that our prayers reach the tagline throne of God. Praying in Jesus’ name means to come and speak through His authority and according to His will.


God is Powerful.

Understand that the power is not in the words of your prayer or in the way your prayer is spoken. The power comes from God! He has the power to do far more with your prayer than you can even imagine. Ephesians 3:20-21 says, "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen."


The one and the only way to experience the power of prayer is to pray. We can thank God for the prayers He has answered with a YES, but also for the ones that were answered differently than we expected. Each answer has moulded our lives and our fellowship with God.


Power of Prayer - How powerful is it?

The power of prayer should not be underestimated. James 5:16-18 declares, "... The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Elijah was a man just likethree and us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for threeand a half years. Again, he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops." God most definitely listens to prayers, answers prayers, and moves in response to prayers.


Jesus taught,"... I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" (Matthew 17:20). 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 tells us, "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have the divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. The Bible urges us, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints" (Ephesians 6:18).


Power of Prayer - How do I tap into it?

The power of prayer is not the result of the person praying. Rather, the power resides in the God who is being prayed to. 1 John 5:14-15 tells us, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us -whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him." No matter the person praying, the passion behind the prayer, or the purpose of the prayer- God answers prayers that are in agreement with His will. His answers are not always yes, but are always in our best interest. When our desires line up with His will, we will come to understand that in time. When, we pray passionately and purposefully, according to God's will, God responds powerfully!


We cannot access powerful prayer by using "magic formulas." Our prayers being answered is not based on the eloquence of our prayers. We don't have to use certain words or phrases to get God to answer our prayers. In fact, Jesus rebukes those who pray using repetitions, "And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him" (Matthew 6:7-8). Prayer is communicating with God. All you have to do is ask God for His help. Psalm 107:28-30 reminds us, "Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the, waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad·when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven." There is power in prayer!


Power of Prayer - For what kind of things should I pray?

God's help through the power of prayer is available for all kinds of requests and issues. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all under­ standing, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." If you need an example of a prayer, read Matthew 6:9-13. These verses are known as the Lord's prayer. The Lord's prayer is not a prayer we are supposed to memorize and simply recite to God. It is only an example of how to pray and the things that should go into a prayer - worship, trust in God, requests, confession, protection, etc. Pray for these kinds of things, but speak to God using your own words.


The Word of God is full of accounts describing the power of prayer in various situations. The power of prayer has overcome enemies (Psalm 6:9-10), conquered death (2 Kings 4:3-36), brought healing (James5:14-15), and defeated demons (Mark 9: 29). God, through prayer, opens eyes, changes hearts, heals wounds, and grants wisdom (James 1:5). The power of prayer should never be underestimated because it draws on the glory and might of the infinitely powerful God of the universe! Daniel 4:35 proclaims, "All the peoples of the earth are regarded nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back His hand or say to him: 'What have you done?'11

Dear Family & Friends,


Thank you so much for praying with us and for us over the past 10 months since we begin the Church Plant here in Stuttgart! We are overjoyed just to see what the Lord has been doing so far in our budding community and can’t wait for the next phase of our journey with Him!


As you know, we have been meeting in Life Groups in various parts of the city and have also been gathering once per month for Worship & Prayer, for ministry among International Couples and also for Training and Equipping in preparation for Services. Together with all of you, we have also been praying for the LORD to provide a space for us to meet each week, so we could begin our Sunday Celebrations.


Well the “Lord had heard your prayers and has made a way”! So we are extremely grateful for God’s favour, provision and faithfulness and look forward to having our official opening & first Sunday Service on Sunday 6th November 2022 @ 3:30 pm!!


After searching for months and having many conversations and meetings and finding nothing at all to rent, we finally received word just this week, that we will be able to rent a basement room of a church in the town of Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart in order to begin our Services! This was truly a miracle!! Especially because of the crisis that we are facing here in Germany because of the war between Russia and the Ukraine, and the high energy and heating costs (that have risen, in some cases by almost 10 times the normal costs.) We were blessed that this church will not charge us rent, but we will just have to pay for heating for the 3 hours that we will use their premises each Sunday afternoon.

However, even with this blessing, the monthly cost is really high for our small band of Jesus Followers. :). From your generous giving last year and offerings from those in our Church Plant, we were able to purchase all of the Equipment and Materials that we need for the Set Up of the Church & are now ready and truly excited for this next step.


We are trusting the Lord for more partners who will like to invest and be part of what the Lord is doing here in Germany, as we seek to bring the Gospel to so many who are lost & in need of hope and our beautiful Saviour. Our monthly rent (as hard as it might be to believe) will be US$1,340. per month ( which is US$335. each Sunday just for heating).


So during our first year of this new Kingdom Assignment, (from November 2022 till November 2023), we are praying for the Lord to raise up 24 individuals or families who would like to contribute a one-time gift of US$500. or 12 individuals or families or Churches who would be willing to invest a one-time gift of US$1,000. towards our rent.
